First responders were dispatched to Bagel Express and Eye Level Learning Center in Williston Park on Hillside Avenue at approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, when a four-alarm fire broke out. Upon arrival, police said that they found a 2008 Chrysler delivery truck from Bagel Express fully engulfed in flames.

Police said that the van was parked close to the building, and it spread to both businesses, causing “extensive damage.” The fire also caused a power outage to a nearby building that forced 16 residents to be displaced.

Firefighters from the Wellington, Mineola and Manhasset Lakeville fire departments responded and were able to extinguish the blaze. The fire reportedly destroyed both buildings.

Everyone in the building was able to escape safely. In total, there were 15 fire apparatus and 100 firefighters at the scene, officials said. One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
